Playmobil has been awarded the Gold Award in the Sustainability category at the sixth edition of the Play for Change Awards, organised by Toy Industries of Europe (TIE). The jury recognised Playmobil’s initiative to produce the new Playmobil Junior product line with 90% bio-based, ISCC PLUS certified plastic, along with the company’s broader commitment to sustainability noted by TIE.
The Play for Change Awards shine a spotlight on innovations that help children thrive. Organised by Toy Industries of Europe, the association representing reputable toy manufacturers at EU level, the Awards celebrate approaches that support safe play, responsible manufacturing and solutions that strengthen children’s development. Winners were announced during a ceremony in Brussels on 18 November.
The Sustainability category recognises initiatives designed to deliver a positive environmental impact. With Playmobil Junior, Playmobil is taking a tangible step towards more responsible material choices while remaining focused on its core mission: empowering children to discover their world through play.
“We are proud to see Playmobil Junior receive this important recognition,” said Bahri Kurter, CEO (Vorstand) of Playmobil. “Creating meaningful play experiences also means taking responsibility for how we make our products. With Playmobil Junior, we’ve taken an important step towards using more sustainable materials while keeping the joy and quality families expect from us.”
As part of the Horst Brandstätter Group, Playmobil regards sustainability as an integral part of its corporate strategy. The Group takes responsibility for a livable future, actively engages in environmental protection, and promotes social initiatives – with the goal of preserving resources for future generations.
Playmobil Junior, launched in 2024, was developed specifically for children aged 1 to 4. The range includes robust, toddler-friendly sets designed for stacking, sorting, puzzling and open-ended discovery — supporting early motor skills, language development and social interaction. All products are tailored to the needs of small hands, contain no small parts and are made in the EU to high quality and safety standards. Since 2024, the entire portfolio for this age group has been produced with materials that are at least 90% plant-based. These materials can be traced back to renewable sources via the mass balance approach and in accordance with the ISCC-208 guidance. Packaging for the line uses at least 90% recycled cardboard and 100% recycled paper.
